We are excited to have partnered with a podiatry-approved shoe brand to bring you some great options! Orthofeet has been a brand we have supported for several reasons, and we were able to partner with them to bring some shoe reviews for different needs!
A Podiatrist’s thoughts on hands-free shoes
* with a review of a new brand *
We have all seen those viral videos of people sliding on their shoes without ever having to bend down, right? We decided to do a review of the benefits of these shoes and a Podiatrist’s true feelings on them.
In a world where we are always on the go, needing quick fixes and immediate results, the hands-free tennis shoe trend has been a go-to choice for many of us lately. From the busy errand runner to the expectant mother, these shoes have quickly become a household favorite.
The benefits
The benefits of these shoes are ease of wearing, first and foremost. Additionally, the ability to customize how tight they are and how they fit your foot due to the laces. This is preferable versus slide on loafer type shoes, as we know our feet are not a one size fits all situation. Our feet also swell throughout the day, so by the end of the day we may have to loosen our shoes. Wearing shoes that are too tight can cause pain and compression of vital structures in your feet. If you have ever watched our social media reels, you’ll recognize how much we do not generally recommend shoes that are not adjustable for this reason.
Slide-on shoes are our favorite recommendation for expectant mothers who have difficulty tying their shoes. Speaking of this on a personal level, these types of shoes were a lifesaver. These make getting ready in the morning a lot less daunting.
The design
There are several on the market currently but only a few that we recommend. One thing we look at is whether the shoe provides adequate support. You can check this by pulling out the insert of the shoe. If it is completely flat, it’s likely not a great shoe for all day wear. We also prefer shoe brands which have extra width shoes readily available. Many shoe brands offer certain sizes/colors in extra width, but there aren’t many who offer them in almost any style and color. Looking for variable width is important as many people wear shoes which are too narrow for their feet. Hello compression issues! You know we love Kizik for a hands-free shoe, but we also added this Orthofeet hands-free model to our commonly recommended shoes. This pair from Orthofeet checks our boxes in that it offers a supportive insert, a nice sole made for all day wear and great designs/color combos which make it an awesome choice for a go to shoe. The thing we love about Orthofeet and that sets it apart, is that it comes with an insert which is customizable for your needs. This is great because it can work for those with flat feet as well as those with high arches. Big Orthofeet gals.
